In recognition of this important mental health challenge faced during the ongoing pandemic, our educational topic for February 2022 is to discuss burnout – what it is, identify how to recognize the signs of it, and provide strategies to support employees and help them manage through it from the perspective of a people manager, an awarded psychotherapist supporting patients living with burnout and to add further insights from a HR Director within the Life Sciences industry.

Burnout is described as the aftermath of a mental or physical collapse. Further, the World Health Organization describes it “as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed.” This definition of burnout rings all the truer during a pandemic that has thrown the nature of our workplaces in complete disarray.

Here is a very recent article about this subject:

Goals:
• Educate the participants of what is burnout including how to recognize the signs and symptoms of this mental health collapse
• Hear one people manager’s experience of having a team member struggle with burnout and supporting them through recovery to thriving again
• Provide strategies on how to prevent burnout and ultimately transition from burnout to feeling fired up with self-care tips!
• Offer an example of one cloud-based platform, Inward Strong, www.inwardstrong.com
as an intervention for people in need of support right away.
